Richard Cirillo M.D., FACS Physician

Biography

Dr. Richard Cirillo is an ABOS Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon and additionally is Subspecialty Certified in Sports Medicine. Originally from Rhode Island, he is a married father of four children. He graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. He completed his internship and residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii and is a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army. Subsequently, he completed a Fellowship Program in Knee and Sports Medicine Surgery at Louisiana State University, providing collegiate sports coverage. 

Dr. Cirillo joined Calvert Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine in August 1995. There, he specializes in Orthopaedic Knee, Shoulder, and Sports Medicine injury treatment and surgery. This includes advanced arthroscopic and open procedures for ligament reconstruction, meniscal repairs, rotator cuff repairs, and joint replacements.

Dr. Cirillo has served in many capacities at Calvert Memorial Hospital including Chief of the Orthopaedic Department, Member of the Medical Executive Committee Member and completed the Medical Staff Leadership Development Program. He was a Medical Board Member at the Prince Frederick Surgery Center, as well as, the Medical Director. Since 2015 Dr. Cirillo has provided leadership as President of the Maryland State Medical Society (MedChi) of Calvert County. He has also been the Physician of the Day at the Annapolis State House.

As an Eagle scout, Dr. Cirillo is very involved in the community and has served in various capacities with the Boys Scouts since 2001, to include Troop Committee Chairman. He has worked closely with the High School Athletic program in Calvert County since 1995, instructing at Coaches and Fire Department Conferences, and provides physician coverage as a Team Physician at Huntingtown High School football games. He was the Head Team Physician for the ECHL Chesapeake Icebreakers, Division AA equivalent, professional hockey team from 1997 to 1999.
