Richard Cirillo M.D., FACS, FAAOS, FAANA Physician

Biography

Dr. Richard Cirillo is an ABOS Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, with an additional Board Certification Subspecialty in Sports Medicine. Originally from Rhode Island, he is a married father of four children. He graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He completed his internship and residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii and subsequently completed a Fellowship Program in Knee and Sports Medicine Surgery at Louisiana State University, providing collegiate sports coverage. Dr. Cirillo is a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army.

Dr. Cirillo joined Calvert Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine in Prince Frederick, Maryland in August, 1995. There he specializes in conditions of the knee and shoulder as well as treatment of sports injuries. Surgical treatment of the knee and shoulder includes advanced arthroscopic and open procedures for ligament reconstruction, meniscal repairs, rotator cuff repairs, and joint replacements.

Dr. Cirillo has served in many capacities at Calvert Medical Health Center to include Chief of the Orthopaedic Department, Medical Executive Committee Member and completed the Medical Staff Leadership Program. At the Prince Frederick Surgery Center, he has served as a Medical Board Member as well as the Medical Director. Since 2015, he has served as President of the Maryland State Medical Society (MedChi) for Calvert County. He has also been the Physician of the Day at the Annapolis State House.

As an Eagle scout, Dr. Cirillo is very involved in the community and has served in various capacities with the Boys Scouts since 2001, to include Troop Committee Chairman. He has worked closely with the High School Athletic program in Calvert County since 1995, providing physician coverage as the Team Physician at Huntingtown High School football games. He also has provided instruction and training at Coaches and Fire Department Conferences in Calvert County. Dr. Cirillo was the Head Team Physician for the ECHL Chesapeake Icebreakers, Division AA equivalent professional hockey team from 1997 to 1999.
