The Centers Hosts ICD-10 Boot Camp

Published July 1, 2015

On July 14-15, 2015, The Centers will be hosting its first-ever ICD-10 Boot Camp at the Bolger Center in Potomac, Maryland. The training session will be led by AAPC, a top training and credentialing organization for medical coding, billing, auditing and compliance. This session is designed specifically for certified coders and billing staff, and should give attendees an understanding of guidelines and conventions of ICD-10, as well as an understanding of how to decipher and apply codes in ICD-10.

The training session will focus on:

  • Overview of the code set
  • ICD-10 format and structure
  • Complete and in-depth ICD-10 guidelines
  • Nuances found in the new coding system with coding tips
  • Coding case studies and exercises

The training is conducted in classroom-style format and is presented over two days (16 total hours) of intensive general ICD-10 code set training, which will include hands-on coding exercises. Each attendee will receive the AAPC ICD-10-CM Workbook and the ICD-10-CM Code Set book. The onsite course includes access to the online version of the course and the online ICD-10 Proficiency Assessment. This will allow for CPC certified coders to achieve proficiency in either of the two methods available:

  1. Following  the  onsite  training,  attendees  will  be  given  an  ICD-10  Proficiency  Assessment  to  ensure understanding of ICD-10 concepts and guidelines. The assessment is 75 questions and will be taken online through AAPC’s testing center. Users will be given 3.5 hours to complete the assessment.
  2.  Attendees  will  also  have  access  to  the  AAPC  online  course  that  they  may  complete  at  their  own  pace to demonstrate proficiency.

In addition, The Centers is planning a training session for providers, which will be led by Karen Zupko & Associates, a national consulting firm. The date and location of this training is still being determined, so stay tuned for more information on that training session as well.
