Advancements in Revenue Cycle Management

Published August 31, 2015

By Ladan Rykiel, Administrator of the Chesapeake Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine division and Chair of the Revenue Cycle Management Committee

As you know, revenue cycle management plays a critical part in the overall well-being of our organization. As The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics, we have a bold mission to provide the highest quality of orthopaedic care and positively influence healthcare delivery. To further these goals, the Revenue Cycle Management Committee was formed last fall and has been meeting on a weekly basis to discuss efficient revenue management.

Currently, our committee is focused on three key initiatives:

  • Identifying viable EMR system options: In response to a request by many CAO divisions, we are working closely with the EMR committee to vet and recommend system options for consideration. To provide these recommendations, we are in the process of reviewing the top five vendors, utilizing various metrics for evaluation.
  • Hyland process flow documentation: As part of this initiative, a task force from our committee will be traveling to the Hyland location to review their flow documentation and make recommendations for efficiencies or additional reporting that could be made available to divisions.
  • ICD-10 training: In July, we conducted our inaugural two-day bootcamp for all CAO coders and billers, to provide an understanding of the guidelines and conventions of ICD-10 as well as an understanding of its codes and proper application. We hosted an additional training for physicians, PAs and physical therapists on August 26th, and will host another session on September 19th with Karen Zupko & Associates, a national consulting firm.

To keep CAO members up-to-date on revenue cycle advancements and initiatives, each newsletter moving forward will include an article from the RCM Committee. Please join me in thanking each member of this committee for the significant time and energy they are investing in our organization:
