The Great ShakeOut and What You Need to Know

Source: shakeout.org

October is earthquake safety month, and everyone, everywhere should know how to protect themselves during earthquakes. Even if earthquakes are rare where you live and work, it is important to know how to keep yourself and those around you safe.

Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills are an annual opportunity to learn how to act, stay safe, and be prepared for when an earthquake strikes.

You cannot always tell when an earthquake will intensify or occur, so remember to "Drop, Cover, and Hold On!"

  • Drop to the ground
  • Cover your head and neck with your arms and seek shelter by getting under a study desk and table if nearby
  • Hold on to your shelter and prepared to move with it until the shaking stops

For these and other value tips, download this earthquake safety sheet. And don't forget, just because this year's Great ShakeOut for your area has passed, there's always next year! Learn more about how to prepare by reading this year's Great ShakeOut drill overview
