The 2017 Work Plan Is Here

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) protects the integrity of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) programs and operations in addition to the well-being of their beneficiaries. To help identify areas of risk and improve compliance in areas like OSHA, HIPAA, billing, coding, training and auditing, the OIG publishes a new Work Plan for each fiscal year.

The 2017 Work Plan summarizes new and ongoing reviews and activities that OIG plans to pursue with respect to HHS programs and operations during the current fiscal year and beyond. You can review and download the full report here. In the meantime, we’ve outlined the key focus areas for 2017:

  • Orthotic Braces - Reasonableness of Medicare Payments Compared to Amounts Paid by Other Payers
  • Power Mobility Devices - Lump-Sum Purchase Versus Rental
  • Competitive Bidding for Medical Equipment Items and Services - Mandatory Review
  • Orthotic Braces - Supplier Compliance with Payment Requirements
  • Access to Durable Medical Equipment in Competitive Bidding Areas
  • Payments for Medicare Services, Supplies and DMEPOS Referred or Ordered by Physicians - Compliance
  • Prolonged Services - Reasonableness of Services
  • Physical Therapists - High Use of Outpatient Physical Therapy Services
