A Message From Our Chief Compliance Officer

Published January 20, 2017

Please join me in welcoming 2017, a year sure to be filled with exciting new initiatives and a more robust Compliance Program. We made great strides in improving The Centers’ compliance culture in 2016, and I am confident we’ll build on our momentum in the year ahead.

This year’s Compliance Program will be rooted in the Office of Inspector General 2017 Work Plan. As with all things, The Centers and the Compliance Committee are dedicated to leading by example in accordance with industry best practices.  As such, our 2017 compliance efforts will be focused on six identified target areas:

  • Billing and Coding for Office vs. Ambulatory Surgical Center
  • Two-Midnight Rule: Outpatient vs. Inpatient Payment
  • Increased Payments for Orthotic Braces
  • Medical Necessity of Orthotics
  • Medical Necessity of Prolonged Services
  • Medicare Part B Payment for Chiropractor Services

In addressing these concentrations, there will be increased monitoring and auditing, training and care center site visits. Additionally, the Compliance Manager tool will be ramped up to its full capacity effective February 1 giving Administrators access to increased capabilities including the ability to:

  • Add, edit, and achieve employees
  • Add, edit, and achieve license and track information for providers and allied health professional
  • Assign trainings
  • Assign investigators for reported incidents
  • Run reports on demand

The enhanced functionality will be a great benefit in improving our compliance, regulatory, and corporate requirements tracking.

I look forward to our continued work together and thank you all, in advance, for your support and participation.

Now, it’s time to get started!
