"Spine Surgeon leader to know: Dr. Joseph O'Brien of The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics"

Joseph O'Brien, MD, is an orthopedic spine surgeon at The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics, a practice with 65 locations throughout the Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., area. His clinical interests focus on minimally invasive spine surgery and revision of failed spine surgery.

He joined The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics in 2016, after nine years as an associate professor of orthopedic surgery and neurological surgery at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He also served as the medical director of minimally invasive spine surgery at Washington, D.C.-based George Washington University Hospital. His research, which was been published in Spine and Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine, investigates ways to salvage failed spine surgery.

Dr. O'Brien earned his medical degree at George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., and completed a spinal surgery fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
