Care Center Spotlight – Calvert Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine
Calvert Orthopaedics is the newest addition to the CAO family of care centers. Currently the practice is home to three orthopaedic surgeons: Dr. Richard Cirillo, Dr. Uday Patel, and Dr. Harlan Taliaferro. All provide general orthopaedic care. The practice collectively offers treatment for a variety of concerns of the shoulder, hips, and knees. For example, Dr. Taliaferro uses MAKOplasty robotic technology to perform less invasive knee replacement procedures.
Founded in 1979, the practice opened its first location in Prince Frederick, MD. Since then the practice has added two locations in Dunkirk and Solomons. Given the rural setting of the practice in Calvert County, Maryland the expansion over time has helped to grow patient volume. By offering convenient locations the practice has seen a steady growth of patients from the local Naval base. The Solomons location also helps make receiving orthopaedic care accessible for those who dwell in the local retirement communities that have sprung up over time.
In addition to his busy practice, Dr. Cirillo is the sideline physician for the Huntingtown High School football team. Additionally, Dr. Cirillo has led a concussion protocol workshop with local volunteer EMTs to make sure they would know how to properly transport injured student athletes should the situation arise. Both Dr. Patel and Dr. Taliaferro have spoken at patient education seminars and presentations at local hospitals.
At Calvert Orthopaedics, the surgeons provide personal attention and high-quality care to their patients. This is made all the more possible due to several long-time employees with the practice, and by their choice to join CAO. The partners at Calvert Orthopaedics decided to become a part of the organization so that they could collaborate with like-minded physicians and continue to provide the personalized care that their patients have come to enjoy.
