Care Center Spotlight: Bay Orthopaedic Associates
Bay Orthopaedic Associates was found in 1997 by Dr. Bijoy Ghosh as a solo orthopaedic practice. Dr. Andrew Cumiskey joined the practice in 2006 and continues to practice there today. Although Dr. Ghosh retired in 2016, Dr. Cumiskey continues to treat patients at Bay Orthopaedic Associates practice locations in Elkton and Chestertown, Maryland. A nimble and dedicated staff travels to each Bay Orthopaedic Associates location. This helps foster a sense of community and connection between patients and the Bay Orthopaedic Associates team. It also helps the staff connect with each other on a day-to-day basis.
Dr. Cumiskey is a veteran of the United States Navy having served as a Flight Surgeon in the Naval Aviation community prior to his retirement from military service. Dr. Cumiskey offers a unique combination of military experience and formal training, particularly in the fields of arthroscopy and sports medicine. He treats many orthopaedic concerns including foot and ankle, hand and wrist. One of the things that makes treatment through Bay Orthopaedic Associates unique is Dr. Cumiskey’s use, when appropriate, of the minimally invasive Superpath® technique to perform total hip replacement.
At Bay Orthopaedic Associates, care is available for the entire family from children to adults. The Elkton location is situated such that patients come not just from Maryland but also Delaware. When some children in the region reach age 18 and are no longer able to receive care through pediatric hospitals or specialists, they often come to Dr. Cumiskey for treatment of their concerns into adulthood.
Bay Orthopaedic Associates joined The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics in 2016. They had reached a turning point; it was necessary to find like-minded partners to work with to make the rising costs of providing healthcare more feasible. Dr. Cumiskey and his team continue to enjoy being a part of The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics. The group has provided the opportunity to uphold the private practice model as a means to provide personalized and excellent patient care; along with that, access to staff training and resources that augment the patient experience.
