We Are Live!
After more than a year of research, months of negotiation and planning, and weeks of prep work, in July 2020 The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics began a new chapter in our growth and integration as an organization. Our first division, Prince William Orthopaedics, Hand Surgery, & Sports Medicine Center went live on CAO’s new EMR system, Modernizing Medicine (ModMed). We are also excited that three more divisions:
- Calvert Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine
- Montgomery Orthopaedics
- Summit Orthopaedics
Will go live on ModMed in early August. We anticipate that all CAO divisions will transition to ModMed by the end of 2021.
There are many considerations when moving to a new system or process. One of the things that helps transitions occur smoothly is ample training. Please note, as your division prepares to move to ModMed, training will be provided. The physicians and staff at the Prince William & Calvert divisions successfully completed their first EMA and Practice Management training sessions in June. The team was also joined by Dr. Veronica Diaz, Medical Director of Orthopedics at Modernizing Medicine, who discussed the respective merits of EMA’s iPad and web interfaces. Approximately 60 participants were in attendance including CAO EHR Committee leadership. Here is some feedback on the training from CAO users:
“All questions were handled well and the training environment was perfect, which gave providers the ability to learn, apply and listen comfortably.”
“Guided scenarios for different patient visits were very helpful.”
“The workshop was very well done. I have done trainings with other companies where we had to ‘make up info’ as we went, and it was difficult and not practical. This felt very organized and the scenarios were very helpful.”
Further, there were specialists from ModMed on site for Prince William’s first few days in the system. While change is not always easy, we hope that this change brings excitement and innovation to CAO. To help with the change we have added a section to this newsletter that is dedicated to ModMed highlights. You can also find information on ModMed on CAO Central here.
