Bethesda, Md. – Nov. 16, 2017 – The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics (The Centers), the largest orthopaedic group in the country, today announced the hiring of Brian Mathias, M.PH., as Chief Clinical Officer. With 30 years of experience leading orthopaedic and healthcare organizations, Mathias brings a proven history of successful business development, practice expansion and operational management to the new executive position.

“Brian Mathias possesses a deep understanding of the changes in the healthcare industry and the unique opportunities for private practice physicians,” said Nicholas Grosso, M.D., President of The Centers. “His extensive experience includes positions with both provider and payor organizations, and his track record demonstrates a commitment to expanding patient services, care and satisfaction. We’re delighted to welcome Brian to the corporate team, and are confident that his leadership will help further our growth and innovation goals as we continue to deliver the highest quality orthopaedic care in the region.”

Mathias previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of Peninsula Orthopaedic Associates in Salisbury, Md., where he doubled the number of professional providers, opened three additional offices, and launched a surgery center, a research program, and physical therapy, podiatry and orthotic services over the last 10 years. Under his leadership, the organization realized an 83 percent revenue growth since he joined in 2007. Prior to this, Mathias held a variety of positions directing managed care for large health systems including Franciscan Health System in Pennsylvania and Mercy Health Services in Michigan.

“The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics, although a young organization, is already setting the standard for patient care and business solutions for private practices,” said Mathias. “Building on this established momentum, I believe we have a tremendous opportunity to continue redefining the patient experience and influencing the national conversation around healthcare delivery. I look forward to working together and drawing on my past experience to expand The Centers and realize this potential.”

With more locations than any orthopaedic group in the nation, The Centers’ footprint spans 42 zip codes across Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., West Virginia and Pennsylvania. More than 170 physicians serve patients across 65 clinical locations and 39 physical therapy clinics. The Centers’ surgeons are affiliated with 36 hospitals and 35 ambulatory surgical centers in the region, specializing in nearly every orthopaedic discipline, including foot & ankle, hand & upper extremity, spine, pediatric orthopaedics, sports medicine, hip & knee, total joint replacement and more.
