Justin Waltrous M.D. — Physician
Biography
Justin D. Waltrous, M.D. is a board-certified specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with subspecialty certification in Sports Medicine. With advanced training in interventional spine care and musculoskeletal medicine, Dr. Waltrous brings a patient-centered, evidence-based approach to restoring function and quality of life.
Dr. Waltrous completed his residency at Rutgers / Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation, where he served as Administrative Chief Resident, and pursued fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Interventional Spine at OSS Health and Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. He previously founded and led Maryland Sports, Spine, and Musculoskeletal Institute (MSSMI), providing minimally invasive care for complex spine and joint conditions. He went on to serve as the Medical Director of PM&R at Personalized Health Partners, part of the CommuniCare family of companies, where he started and built a PM&R department in their multi-specialty group throughout over 100 skilled nursing facilities across 5 states.
His professional background includes research in foam rolling and hamstring flexibility, academic contributions to image-guided spinal procedures, and national presentations on rare neurological disorders. Dr. Waltrous has been recognized for excellence in teaching with multiple resident and student awards and held leadership roles with the AAPM&R Resident Physician Council.
With over a decade of experience in rehabilitation and spine care, Dr. Waltrous focuses on functional recovery, pain management, injury prevention and optimizing physical performance—helping patients return to the activities that matter most.
