Biography

Dr. Zhang specializes in minimally invasive and motion-sparing spine surgery, as well as non-operative therapeutic options. He became interested in spine surgery because of the profound impact he can make on patients' quality of life and functionality. Dr. Zhang feels passionate about working closely with his patients to select the best individualized treatment plan. His goal is to achieve the ideal outcome with the least invasive methods by maximizing non-operative options, and if necessary, performing procedures utilizing the newest technology and techniques, including tubular, endoscopic, microscopic, computer navigation, and robotic assistance. 

Dr. Zhang completed his spine surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery, the top U.S. orthopedic program and training institution, under leaders in minimally invasive, cervical, and complex spine surgery. He is committed to advancing the field of spine surgery with over 50 presentations, 25 journal publications, and numerous book chapters and technique guides. Additionally, he is a member of several national spine societies and reviewed articles for various spine journals. Dr. Zhang strongly believes in following the most up-to-date guidelines supported by research.

Dr. Zhang sees patients in Montgomery County, Olney, and the Silver Spring offices in Maryland. He operates in the Columbia, Montgomery County, and Germantown medical centers.
